Well I’ve just uploaded the third episode of my Glass Darkly steampunk story to Amazon ready for pre-order, that’s all three episodes now available to either purchase or pre-order, as well as being available in paperback format or through kindle unlimited, and my goodness has it taken a lot of energy to get them over the line.

Of course I always knew it would be a bit more work to publish a story episodically, but I think I focused more on whether it would be something that readers might like, and I didn’t really stop to think about how much extra time it would take to commission three covers, to write three back cover descriptions, to format a paperback and eBook version of each episode, to upload those details to Amazon, make sure the eBook and paperback editions synchronize, sort out the ISBN’s, and pricing info and the dozens of other little bits and pieces that go into the writing and publishing of any novel.
Was it worth it? Well that will all depend on whether the format appeals to readers or whether they’d much rather just have it all published in a lump.
Have I enjoyed writing it? Absolutely, its been incredibly enjoyable to research and write and I can’t wait to get to work on the second season of stories in this series which I’ve plotted out, but am not due to start writing until August.
In the meantime I’m just finishing off the first draft of the second book in my Flames of Time series, this one called the Embers of Time, so I’ll be commissioning the artwork for that soon, which is always quite exciting in and of itself, and I have the idea for short story which I’m also going to write up in the next few weeks as a freebie for anyone signing-up to my mailing list.
Finally, as some of you who have been visiting my site for a little bit longer may notice, I’m also in the think of a website re-design at the moment, this is also in part driven by some structural changes I’ve been wanting to make for a while so that I can set up a members only area on the site. Needless to say its all time I’d rather be spending on my writing or research, but it just couldn’t wait any longer.
I know it sounds like a lot of work, which it is, but if you’ve been thinking of having a go at writing your own story, then don’t let it put you off, you can usually spread these different tasks out over several weeks or put them off for a while until the timing is more convenient, so that you can focus on the fun bit of actually doing the writing.
